Yobe Ministry trains information officers on effective public communication (Pictures)

The Yobe State Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing good relationships between the government and the public.

The Commissioner of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Mr Abdullahi Bego, said the ministry will deploy knowledge and all necessary tools available to ensure that the public knows as much as possible about what the government is doing on their behalf across security to healthcare, education, agriculture and other sectors.

The commissioner made this known on Tuesday during a three-day (3) workshop for information officers in the state.

Mr Bego stated that the capacity to professionally and effectively inform the public depends to a large extent on the information officers aligning themselves with industry best practices, and approaching their jobs with knowledge, skill and wisdom.

The commissioner expressed optimism that at the end of the workshop, participants at the training will be qualified and skilled information officers and will have a presence across all media platforms than they are currently operating.

He further expressed his deepest gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by the Secretary to Yobe State Government, Baba Malam Wali, during the workshop.

He applauded the governor for all the support the ministry received and continued receiving from the state government.

He said that the support will surely make them better professionals in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Bego also thanked all the resource persons for imparting great knowledge and inspiring the participants during the workshop.

Bego said, “We are holding this workshop at a significant period because we are the purveyors of information and enlightenment across the state”.

He said, “Our resource persons are Professor Danjuma Gambo, a mentor to many of us, from the University of Maiduguri, Professor Abdullahi Bashir, Dean of the faculty of the Communication University of Abuja, Dr Musa Usman from the University of Maiduguri, Dr Ruqayya Aliyu Yusuf from Bayero University Kano, and Malam Hamza Idris, the Editor-In-Chief of Trust Newspapers Abuja, who amongst all the others I have mentioned, will give us a hands-on about what editors look out for when they get reports from reporters or any material for publication.

“If the participants in this workshop are as inspired and as fired up as I am about the possibilities that lie ahead, I could not imagine a better cast of resource persons than we have in this workshop,” said Mr Bego.
