Yobe varsity students flog senior lecturer over social media posts (Video)

Some hoodlums have assaulted a senior lecturer from the Department of Chemistry in the Federal University Gashua, Yobe State (FUGA), Dr Mohammed Saminu Dagari, because of his posts on social media, according to a viral video clip came across by Neptune Prime.

Dr Dagari was allegedly attacked because of some social media posts where he alleged that some politicians in Nguru are involved in sorcery, sodomy and other evil things.

In the video obtained by Neptune Prime, the unidentified assailants confronted and started beating up the lecturer until other passersby noticed and intervened.

Dr Dagari is a former lecturer at the Bayero University Kano (BUK) before joining the Federal University Gashua as a senior lecturer. He is also the chairman of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) at the university.

The senior lecturer is being termed an activist after he served on the Governing Council of the University of Lagos.

However, a senior lecturer who craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the press told Neptune Prime that no student at FUGA took part in beating the lecturer.

According to him, FUGA students are disciplined and therefore would not indulge in such “and in any case, any student knows the implication of assaulting a staff, not to talk of a lecturer.”

He said the embarrassing event happened in front of the academic’s family home and not even in the university town and that it was perpetrated by thugs. He, however, assured that the police are investigating the matter.
