Zamfara’s Ongoing Nightmare: 14 lives lost, 60 residents abducted following student kidnapping
In a grim development, terrorists struck once again in Zamfara State, located in Nigeria’s northwest region, just 48 hours after the abduction of university students.
On Sunday, gunmen, suspected to be terrorists, mercilessly killed eight people and abducted over 60 residents, according to a report by Reuters.

During this horrific incident, the terrorists even attempted to attack a forward army base in the rural Magami community, as revealed by a local traditional leader.
This devastating event unfolded shortly after the harrowing abduction of undergraduate students from the Federal University Gusau.
SaharaReporters had initially reported the invasion of the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida, known as Nazeer Sabon-Gida, where female students were forcibly taken away.
Witnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal, describing how the gunmen forcibly entered the hostels, breaking down doors and shattering windows before abducting 24 female students.
Additionally, they didn’t spare a security guard and 10 construction workers who were sleeping in a makeshift shelter on the university premises.
In a glimmer of hope, the Nigerian Army later announced the successful rescue of six of the abducted students after a fierce gun battle with the terrorists.
Meanwhile, in another troubling incident, suspected Islamist insurgents ambushed a convoy of vehicles under military escort in the Northeast region.
Tragically, this attack resulted in the loss of two soldiers and claimed the lives of four civilians. The attackers also set fire to five vehicles and made off with one truck.
As these security challenges continue to plague Nigeria, there is growing concern about the government’s response.
President Bola Tinubu has yet to outline a clear strategy to address the rampant insecurity.
In addition, economic policies, such as the removal of a costly fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira, have exacerbated the cost of living and hardships, causing widespread frustration among the Nigerian population.
