The Yobe State government said the construction of 1,800 housing units, across the 17 local government areas in the state, which marked the first phase of the project, would be completed in six months.
Alhaji Bukar Dauda, the Commissioner Ministry of Housing and Urban Development disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Damaturu.
“The time frame for the construction of the first phase which is 1,800 housing units across the 17 local government areas in the state is 6 months.
“We are sure we can meet the target because most projects get stopped due to lack of payment.
“In this case, however, we are assuring the contractors that as soon as they reach the certain agreed level, they will be paid within just a week.
“So we hope somewhere around Jan. 2021 the 1,800 houses will be completed. That is our target.”, the Commissioner said.
The commissioner also said the cumulative cost of the first phase of the project stood at N7.4 billion and Yobe state government had already paid 15 per cent mobilization fee to the contractors.
One of the contract terms according to him was that the contractors should patronage Yobe Sahe Aluminium Company for roofing sheets to strengthen the economy of the state.
He also explained that the 1,800 housing units consist of 701 three-bedroom urban, 324 two-bedroom urban, 775 two-bedroom rural.
