The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has presented a Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to the first sets of qualified manufacturers in Gombe State.
Presenting the certificates, in Gombe on Thursday the state coordinator, Alhaji Umar Yakubu said that the companies are Abba bakery and Atalantis Table Water NiG NTD.
He said the manufacturers demonstrated conformity to the relevant standards of the organization.
“This means their products are safe for consumption,” he said.
He advised the management of factories to redouble their efforts to maintain the quality of their products.
“As having the certificate is one thing and the ability to sustain it in terms of quality, safety and performance is another thing.
“So it’s a big challenge for you because quality is the journey that has no end.
“The certificate is being borrowed to you for a period of three years, after three years we are going to assess the quality of the products to see if you are still on the top of the game,” he said.
According to him, if they were found wanting, the orientation will withdraw the certificates.
He said among the benefits of the certificate are having easy access to the market nationally and internally, to build the confidence of the consumers for attaining the quality.
Yakubu further called on other factories to obtain their own as it’s mandatory as some have commenced the process.
Alhaji Abubakar Adamu, Managing Director Atalantis Table water commended SON and assured to maintain the standard of their products. He said having the certificate is a testimony that they believe in purity and quality.
Muhammad Haruna, Managing Director Abba bakery in his remarks, also assured consistency in maintaining the standard of their bread.
He added that the certificate would make them to put more effort and to increase the quality of their bread.
