Katsina State Government approves automatic employment for best graduating students of UMYU after NYSC

The Katsina State Government has approved automatic employment for the overall best graduating students of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, upon the successful completion of their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Governor Dikko Umar Radda announced the decision during the university’s 14th convocation ceremony, describing the move as part of the state’s efforts to promote academic excellence and reward merit among young scholars.

According to the governor, the policy is intended to motivate students to strive for excellence while ensuring that outstanding graduates are retained and integrated into the state’s workforce. He directed the relevant authorities to begin necessary processes to facilitate the employment of eligible beneficiaries into the state civil service.

In addition to the employment offer, the governor approved a ₦100,000 cash award for the best graduating student in each department, while the overall best graduate is to receive a brand-new vehicle as a special recognition for exceptional academic performance.

Governor Radda also announced the release of funds to support programme accreditation at the university and approved a salary increase for academic and non-academic staff, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving staff welfare.

The convocation ceremony saw the graduation of 2,682 students, including 31 first-class degree holders, and was attended by government officials, university management, and other stakeholders in the education sector.

The initiative has been widely viewed as a significant step toward encouraging excellence in higher education and addressing graduate unemployment in the state.
