20 Years of Neglect: Uba Sani blames El-Rufai for unrenovated Kaduna hospitals

Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, recently addressed stakeholders from all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state, who paid him homage for Eid-el-Fitr at the Kaduna Government House. During the meeting, Governor Sani accused former Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of neglecting the state’s 32 general hospitals for two decades.

According to Governor Sani, this neglect has forced residents to seek medical attention in neighboring regions, highlighting the dire situation faced by the state’s healthcare system. To address this issue, his administration has pledged to renovate, rebuild, and equip six general hospitals, with two hospitals designated for each of the state’s three senatorial districts.

Governor Sani emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “In the last one month, I have received reports from our deputy governor… that our 32 general hospitals in Kaduna, as we speak, most of them are not functional.” He underscored the need for immediate action to rectify the decades-long neglect, which has left the hospitals in a state of disrepair.

Acknowledging the importance of investing in healthcare, Governor Sani announced plans to commence the remodeling and reconstruction of the selected hospitals within a few days. He attributed the sorry state of the hospitals to the lack of attention they received over the past 20 years, emphasizing the commitment of his administration to address this longstanding issue.

In addition to healthcare, Governor Sani highlighted the government’s focus on the education sector, especially in the wake of recent security challenges. Following the abduction of schoolchildren in the Kuriga community, the government conducted a comprehensive evaluation of all junior secondary schools and primary schools across the state.

Governor Sani disclosed that over 1,500 schools require fencing to enhance security, in line with the Safe School Initiative. To address this need, he enlisted the support of prominent citizens, such as Kashim Bukar and Adamu Atta, who have pledged to fence 100 schools.

He expressed gratitude to these individuals for their contribution to improving school security in the state.
