USAID honours Yobe’s Adamu Yaro Potiskum, to invite him to America

Wednesday, 17th of January 2018 was a day Yobe State was honoured by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project, Education Crisis Response (ECR), when it honoured one of its sons, Alhaji Adamu Yaro Potiskum with a Meritorious Award.
Some other recipients of awards at the ceremony that took place at the Borno State Government House, Maiduguri, and attended by dignitaries from all works of life, were Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, the Shehu of Borno, Commissioner of Education, Borno State and the immediate past Permanent Secretary of the Borno State Ministry of Education and the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

While each recipient was honoured for their activities, Alhaji Adamu Yaro Potiskum’s was because, according to the USAID, “during a period of three years, he helped the education of IDPs through the provision of four learning centers at Shagari Housing Estate, Potiskum, regular water supply to the centers, toilet facilities in the centers, adequate monitoring of the centers, engagement of supporting staff for the centers, payment of scholarship and bursaries to over 100 economically disadvantaged and internally displaced persons and mainstreaming over 50 trained internally displaced children into formal education, amongst others as the basis for the all important Award”.
Commenting, Mr. Earl Gast, the Senior Vice President, Education and Economic Growth Divisions (Africa Strategy) of the Creative Associates International, who led a team of partnering specialists from the USA, said they were greatly overwhelmed and impressed by Alhaji Adamu Yaro’s kindness and philanthropic nature.

He praised his concern for humanity through education and social services; stressing that their next focus shall be on youths’ empowerment and pledged to invite him to the USA for more deliberations, discussions and possible partnership.
