Yobe govt affirms resolve to sustain post-insurgency recovery plans

The Yobe State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustain the recovery plans of the state through strategic collaboration with all stakeholders in the state.

A statement signed by the Director of Information Services, Yobe state, Husna Ibrahim, indicates that Governor Mai Mala Buni made this known Wednesday while hosting the United Nations Representative and Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator for Nigeria who paid him a courtesy call in Damaturu, Yobe state.

Represented by the Secretary to the state government, Baba Malam Wali, the Governor who expressed delight over the visit, disclosed that the state had recorded impressive successes as a result of strong partnership in addressing multiple humanitarian crises In the state.

He attributed these achievements to the resolution by the government to ensure an improved and sustainable livelihood for the people.

The Governor said that despite insecurity and the current global recession, the government has developed platforms to engineer recovery and will leave no stone unturned in sustaining these achievements beyond the present situation.

He noted that the focus of the government is largely on improved health care delivery, with the establishment of primary healthcare centres in the 178 wards of the state, the education sector, agriculture, human capital development and self-reliance.

Yobe, the Governor maintained, is open to other areas of collaboration that would enable its recovery process and ensure impactful development for the betterment of the people of the state.

Speaking on their mission in Yobe state, the UN Representative for Nigeria who is also the Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator for Nigeria, Mr Mathias Schmale, said it is the UN partner’s effort to get an overview of the situation in Yobe state, to understand priority needs of the state, challenges ad possible areas of improved intervention.

He commended the effort of the state government and the relative peace experienced in the state, pledging the active participation of development partners in complementing the recovery process and other needs of the state.

Schmale also pointed out flood, malnutrition and displacement which have affected agriculture and life generally, as the key priority needs of the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Mohammed Goje, gave an overview of the humanitarian situation of the state, stating that the government has been up and doing in providing rapid response, calling on stakeholders and international partners to key into government plans and assist with more funding to enable early recovery.
