2023: Why APC, Tinubu should pick Buni as running mate, by Yusuf Ali

Amidst consultations over who emerges as the running mate to All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu in 2023 presidential election, the immediate past APC National Chairman Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, should be considered as a suitable candidate in a perfect ticket to win the election.

It is worthy of note that many members of our great party and Nigerians have opened up on why the party and Tinubu should pick Mai Mala Buni as running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election, among which are national recognition and acceptability because of his attitudes and views. Buni is well experienced and believe in good governance. He has compassion and he believes in social justice.

As the immediate past National Chairman, who reposition the party, Buni knows the party structure and he is the best and most practical person to drive the Asiwaju victory as a Vice Presidential Candidate.

Yes Zulum, Bagudu, Ganduje, Lalong are all good materials in the North deserving of the VP slots, looking at the calibre and track records of Buni‘s service to our great party and the kind of person he is, Buni is perhaps the only option APC has to break Atiku from the North East zone and swings votes all across.

It is Buni, who knows Atiku and how to tackle him head on. He was a Chairman of ACN when Atiku contested for President in 2007. He understands the game better. The Tinubu campaign will benefit from his political prowess and sagacity.

Buni has no record of tribalism whatsoever, he has friends and political associates network all over Nigeria. He is well accepted across the broad spectrum of Nigerian politics, by politicians and practitioners. I believe Tinubu will be at peace to work with him as running mate to deliver good governance.

Buni as Vice President and as an apostle of peace that he is known for will surely mediate the issues of North – South – Muslim – Christians among other forms of differences for more united and prosperous Nigeria.

On the challenge of Muslim-Muslim ticket, it is not constitutional, Kaduna State had experimented it and since then, the state has been peaceful, it has been a state that is void of ethnic violence.

Yusuf Ali is the Media Officer, All Progressives Congress (APC), Headquarters Abuja.
