All Progressives Congress wins AMAC chairmanship election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the chairmanship election of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), securing a decisive win in the closely watched local government poll.

The returning officer announced the APC candidate as the duly elected chairman after collation of results from the various wards across the council. The party reportedly polled the highest number of valid votes cast, defeating candidates of rival political parties in what observers described as a competitive exercise.

Election officials noted that the exercise was largely peaceful, with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) deployed to ensure transparency and credibility in the voting process. Although voter turnout was moderate in some wards, the overall conduct of the election was said to have met required standards.

Party supporters gathered in celebration shortly after the declaration of results, describing the victory as a reflection of public confidence in the APC’s grassroots mobilization and development agenda within the council.

Reacting to the outcome, party leaders thanked residents of AMAC for their support and pledged to prioritize infrastructure, primary healthcare, sanitation, and youth empowerment programmes. Meanwhile, opposition parties have called for continued vigilance and constructive engagement in the council’s governance.

The AMAC chairmanship election forms part of the broader FCT Area Council polls, which determine leadership across local councils in the Federal Capital Territory.
