Bandits attack Kaduna mosque during morning prayers, kill Imam, worshipper

In the early hours of Tuesday, a tragic incident unfolded as bandits raided a mosque in Sabon Layi, Kakangi ward, located in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

During the attack, the Imam and one worshipper named Kabir lost their lives, while two others, Bilya Mairabo and Ashiru Mairabo, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care at Jibrin Maigwari General Hospital in Birnin-Gwari.

Zubair AbduRrauf, a community leader with the title of Danmasanin of Birnin-Gwari, revealed that this horrifying event occurred during the early morning Subhi prayers at approximately 5 am.

AbduRrauf highlighted the persistent threats that bandits pose to Birnin-Gwari communities, emphasizing that these attacks, particularly on farmers and residents, have become a daily occurrence.

The situation is particularly dire on the Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway, causing distress among travelers and road users.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, promised to provide further details once he was able to do so, stating, “I am driving and when I stop, I will get back to you.”
