Housewife in Gombe hits husband to death

A housewife, Biba Mohammed, whose age was not disclosed, has been arrested by operatives of the Gombe Police Command for allegedly clubbing her husband to death.

The housewife is therefore facing the offence of alleged culpable homicide, said to have been committed on November 16, 2023, at approximately 08:21 hrs.

Gombe Police PRO, ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, stated in a statement that a distress call was received from a resident of Barunde Quarters in Gombe, reporting a suspected homicide case committed in his neighbourhood.

Detectives from the Lowcost Division were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the late husband, Mohammed Maliki, lying in a pool of blood.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Following a preliminary investigation, Biba Mohammed, the wife of the deceased, was taken into custody after confessing to the crime.

In her statement, she admitted to using a pestle to strike his head, which eventually led to his death.

Mahid Abubakar said that “the case is currently under investigation at SCID and will be presented in court for prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.”

Also, the command arrested five suspects for alleged criminal conspiracy, assault or criminal force, an attempt to commit culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt and mischief, obstruction of a public servant from performing a lawful duty and inciting public disturbance.

According to the PPRO, on 4/11/2023, at about 14:00 hrs, one Barrister, Ayuba Buba, an Upper Area Court Judge, his Registrar, Mal Abubakar Gambo, and his team went to the Potuki Digree area of Balanga LGA to make inquiries in respect of farmland in dispute pending before the court.

The defendant, Malam Abubakar Umar, and other accomplices allegedly conspired and attacked the said judge and his team with offensive weapons.

In the process, the registrar and one other person sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Later, on 11/11/2023, 5 suspects in respect of the said crime, namely: Abubakar Umaru Dunda, 50 years old; Adamu Umaru Dunda, 54 years old; Hamman Umaru Dunda, 42 years old; Nuhu Umaru Dunda, 35 years old; Alhassan Umaru Dunda, 39 years old; and Tukur Umar Dauda, aged 40, all of Degri village, Balanga LGA, were arrested.

Furthermore, on November 10, 2023, police operatives attached to the Bajoga Division, while on visibility patrol, arrested Abubakar Mohammed, 25 years old, in Bajoga town on his way to Gombe.

The said suspect was intercepted with four railway slippers (tracks) and couldn’t give a proper account of them when interrogated.

The suspect later confessed to having stolen the properties and was carrying them to Gombe to sell.

The Command therefore appealed to the people of the state to continue to collaborate with the police by taking a keen interest in issues of personal security and neighbourhood safety and providing useful information on the activities of any suspicious individuals or groups.
