Famous Yobe photographer, Saidu, aims to shatter historic headshot record

Saidu Abdulrahman, a passionate photographer and founder of SP Photography Academy in Potiskum, is gearing up for a historic attempt to break the headshot record at the prestigious “Portraithon” event in Kano.

This ambitious initiative aims to capture the most headshots in a single hour, highlighting the growing importance of photography in the twenty-first century.

During an interview on June 30, Saidu shared his official registration credentials for the attempt.

Despite completing his education in office technology and administration at the College of Administration Technology, Potiskum (CAMTECH), Saidu followed his lifelong passion for photography.

Instead of taking a government desk job, he opened his own studio, which has flourished into a successful business.

Saidu is well-known in his community for capturing the essence of public events and gatherings, including weddings and festivities, throughout Yobe State and Kano.

“This is a test of my dedication and a dream come true within the world of photography,” Saidu said of his record-breaking attempt.

“My goal is to inspire the next generation to value the creativity and power of capturing moments with a camera.”

Yahuza Rabiu Garba, the project’s main director, described Portraithon as “A groundbreaking initiative designed to ignite the passion of young Nigerian artists and unlock their creative potential within the arts.”

He emphasised that the event aims to create a joyous and vibrant atmosphere while “decolonizing the narratives” and bringing fresh energy to Northern Nigeria’s cultural scene.

Saidu, a talented photographer with several national awards, is optimistic that Portraithon will break records and attract sponsors from both Nigeria and abroad.

Celebrating the undeniable power of photography and empowering young artists, Portraithon is poised to make history in the Nigerian art scene.
