Paramedics successfully revived a 52-year-old man who collapsed after smoking a cigarette with an unidentified substance on Saturday in Duisburg. The man’s condition has since improved.
In two separate incidents on Tuesday, a 43-year-old and a 45-year-old man collapsed after smoking contaminated cigarettes but survived.
Following witness interviews and a description of the cigarette seller, a suspect was apprehended for suspected violation of the New Psychoactive Substances Act. However, a search of the suspect’s residence yielded no additional evidence.
Investigators believe that smoking a cigarette containing an unknown substance led to severe cardiovascular complications that could have been fatal.
