2027: El-Rufai denies decamping to PDP, labels rumours as false

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed reports suggesting that he has left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking through a close aide, El-Rufai described the rumours as baseless and a creation of mischief-makers. The aide emphasised that as a high-profile politician, El-Rufai would have publicly announced such a major decision if it were true.

Reacting personally via his verified account on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai urged the public to disregard the “patent lies” about his political affiliation. He also disclosed that legal action is being taken against the originators of the false claims.

“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” he wrote.

El-Rufai remains a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, having served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. His name often features in political speculation, underscoring his influence within and beyond the APC.

For now, El-Rufai continues to affirm his allegiance to the APC, while his legal team addresses the circulating misinformation.
