Lady ends life over lover’s betrayal in Cross River

Story by Susan Mbamah

A 22-year-old woman, identified as Odama Mary Agado, has reportedly died by suicide after allegedly discovering her boyfriend with another woman in his apartment.

Mary, who hailed from Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was a hairdresser based in Enugu, where she ran a thriving salon business.

According to a local source, Daniel, the deceased was known to be doing well financially and had reportedly supported her boyfriend by buying him a car and renting an apartment for him. However, trouble began when she discovered that he had become romantically involved with another lady.

“Mary went to visit her boyfriend last Friday, hoping to spend the weekend with him, but found another woman in the apartment she rented for him. She became very angry and left immediately,” Daniel said.

Devastated by the betrayal, Mary reportedly returned to her home and called her mother to recount what had happened. During the call, she hinted that she no longer wished to live.

“She told her mother to take whatever she heard in good faith, meaning she was about to harm herself,” Daniel added.

Unfortunately, her mother did not act on the warning immediately, claiming she lacked airtime to call back or alert anyone. Hours later, she received the heartbreaking news that her daughter had consumed a poisonous substance suspected to be Sniper and was rushed to the hospital.

Despite efforts by doctors, Mary was pronounced dead later that evening. Her remains were taken to her hometown the next day and buried immediately.

“Once the body arrived on Saturday, we buried her right away because she was too young to be kept for a formal burial ceremony,” Daniel explained.

There was reportedly no police involvement, as the incident was believed to be a voluntary act.

“We’re still in shock. Some people think it was spiritual manipulation, but whatever the reason, no one can bring her back,” he said sadly.
