‎Europe makes another major strategic “mistake” by designating IRGC – Araghchi

‎Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has sharply criticized Europe’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a so-called terrorist organization, describing the move as “another major strategic mistake.”

‎In a post on his X account on Thursday, Araghchi said that while several countries are currently working to prevent the outbreak of an all-out war in the region, European states are notably absent from such efforts.

‎“Several countries are presently attempting to avert the eruption of all-out war in our region. None of them are European,” he wrote, adding that Europe is instead “busy fanning the flames.”

‎Araghchi noted that after pursuing the so-called ‘snapback’ mechanism at the behest of the United States, Europe has now taken another misguided step by designating Iran’s national military force as a terrorist entity.

‎He also accused Europe of blatant hypocrisy, pointing to what he described as its failure to take action in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza, while at the same time rushing to claim the defense of human rights in Iran.

‎According to the foreign minister, the move is largely a public relations gesture aimed at concealing what he called Europe’s declining influence and role on the international stage.
