Kogi gov’t set to implement minimum wage for workers

The Kogi State Government has signed an agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress for the immediate implementation of thirty thousand naira minimum wage for the state workforce.

Governor Yahaya Bello stated this during a meeting with the Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Government House, Lokoja.

Bello who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja, said the welfare of civil servants is the priority of the new direction of the administration.

According to him, the state government has maintained the prompt payment of salaries to its workers to date and thanked the Labour Congress for their show of patriotism.

The Governor reiterated its determination to ensure rapid development of the state, sustain peaceful coexistence and ensure the welfare of the Kogi people.

Earlier, the state chairman of the implementation committee and secretary to the state government, Mrs Folashade Ayoade, said it was a fruitful deliberation with Labour despite initial setbacks.

Speaking, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Onu Edoka, noted that through the implementation of the new national minimum wage in Kogi State, value has been added to the Workers of the state.

Comrade Onu said the implementation takes immediate effect.

He praised Governor Bello, the State Head of Service and the Secretary to the State Government for coming to terms with organised labour and called on members to remain diligent.

In her remarks, the State Head of Service, Mrs Hannah Odiyo commended Governor Yahaya Bello for approving the implementation of the thirty thousand naira national minimum wage and pledged the dedication of state civil servants.
