2023 General Elections: APM Chairman urges unity, cooperation among members

As Nigerians count down to the 2023 general elections, the new acting Chairperson of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) political party, Honourable Rose D. S. Gyar (a.k.a. Mama Party), has called for unity among members of the party.

Gyar appreciated all those who congratulated her on the new position saying that APM is one family.

“I wish to sincerely appreciate all those who congratulated me publicly on the various APM family platforms and those who found it more convenient to private chat, call or send text messages personally to me as I ascend the leadership of our great party as the Ag. National Chairperson.  I am indeed humbled by this show of love and would not take it for granted. This is a demonstration of enthusiasm and the quest for the growth, development and sustainability of our great party. May God reward you all and bless the works of our hands and our good heart desires.

“Having said this, I wish to inform everyone on this platform and members of our party that APM is one family”, the statement read in part.

Speaking further, she pleaded for oneness in order to achieve the aspirations of the party.

“There is no reason for the seeming divisive messages posted on the platforms. The change of leadership is only meant to strengthen the party as an institution and establish systems that can engender inclusive participation of all members towards achieving the aspirations of the pioneer and founding members of the party.

“It is normal that we all can have different personal opinions but I urge us all to put the interest of the party and our collective interest first, before our individual interests. This will enable us to collectively and inclusively reposition the party. No man is an island, as often said, so also it is said, that walking alone, you can walk fast but walking together you will go far. Let us walk together for the sake of our party.

The acting chairperson said it is imperative for a democratic process to be established to admit new entrants who are indicating interest to join the party, strengthen existing structures and fortify party organs to deliver effective services to members and sustain a cordial relationship with stakeholders to engender collaboration and partnership.

In the light of the above, she said, “I wish to call on every one of us to relax and contribute positively towards repositioning our party for greater heights. I use this opportunity to also call on all old members who probably were aggrieved and left the party as well as those who for one season or the other are docile in the activities or affairs of the party to re-energise and bounce back for the new leadership is open to suggestions and positive criticism that would build the party. We must work together to mobilize citizens to be interested in joining our party for robust political engagement”.

Honourable Gyar also disclosed that “State/FCT, LGA/AC and Ward congresses would be held in order to culminate into a National Convention that would bring forth democratically elected officers of the party at all levels to conduct party primaries for our candidates at national and State/FCT elections for all offices during the 2023 general elections.”

Finally, she called on all organs of the party ie Board of Trustees (BOT), National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) to eschew bitterness, self-centeredness, sentiments, mischief and come together to work for the progress and success of the party.

Gyar also called on members of the NWC to a meeting with a view to coming up with a programme of activity for the congresses and convention soonest following the provisions of the constitution and in adherence to INEC guidelines.
