Donald Trump will soon have his image featured in a limited-edition United States passport, according to officials, marking another symbolic move by the administration to place the president’s personal imprint on government institutions.
The United States Department of State confirmed plans to release the commemorative passports as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
Images circulating in media reports showed one passport design featuring Trump’s official portrait superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, alongside his signature in gold lettering. Another design reportedly includes artwork depicting America’s Founding Fathers.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott announced the development on social media, saying the passports were being prepared to commemorate America’s historic anniversary celebrations in July.
According to officials, the Trump-themed passports will be issued in limited quantities and made available in Washington at no additional cost while supplies last.
It remains unclear whether applicants will be allowed to opt out of receiving the commemorative version.
Current US passports traditionally feature historical landmarks and moments in American history, including the Moon landing and iconic sites such as the Statue of Liberty.
The decision marks a significant departure from modern democratic norms, where passports generally avoid featuring serving political leaders and instead focus on national symbols, landscapes, or historical figures.
Since returning to office, Trump has increasingly attached his name and image to public institutions and government projects. Several federal buildings in Washington have displayed large banners featuring the president, while his administration recently announced that his signature would also begin appearing on US dollar notes.
The development comes as King Charles III concluded a state visit to Washington, where he met with Trump earlier this week.
