Former director, 50 persons kidnapped as insurgency surges in Niger

Few days after former Director of Personnel Management (DPM), Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Malami, and a veterinary doctor with the Department of Veterinary Medicine Musa Mohammed were kidnapped in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, terrorists struck again kidnapping 50 people from Kuchi, Munya Local Government of the state.

According to the Co-convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths Of Niger State, Sani Kokki, the abduction was said to have occurred while rain was falling around 2 am on Friday.

This is as Boko Haram insurgents and bandits are said to have taken over multiple communities in Niger State.

Recently, Governor Sani Bello of Niger State, disclosed that at least 220 people have been killed in attacks on about 300 communities of the state just this year.

The governor also said the terror groups carrying out the attacks operate not only in Niger State but also in other nearby states.

It has also been gathered that the criminals forcefully recruit people and sometimes offer villagers money to incorporate them into their ranks to fight the government.

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced a military operation in the state to eliminate all terror groups. The president suggested that apart from bandits, elements of the Boko Haram terror group were also operating in the state.
