Gombe revenue service donates 10, 000 books to newly established school

As part of its social responsibilities, the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) Thursday donated 10, 000 copies of exercise books to a newly established model school, ‘Alabura Model Primary and Junior Secondary School in the Kumbiya-Kumbiya community of the state.
The executive chairman of the service, Abubakar Inuwa Tata, while presenting the books to the school management said they use parts of the revenues generated by the service to carry out social responsibility projects.
He said if people pay their taxes as when due, the government would be able to provide dividends and social amenities to the state.
According to him, no government can function properly without internal income adding that the GIRS is determined to boost the economy of the state to improve good governance.
“We are today donating 10, 000 copies of books which include English and Mathematics exercise books to pupils and students from nursery to junior secondary classes in this school. Apart from this donation by the service, I will also through my personal foundation called AIT Foundation take care of the PTA fees of all the pupils and students.
“I realised that some children stay at home at times due to the inability of their parents to pay their fees,” he said.
Responding, the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) represented by a permanent member of the board, Sani Sabo, lauded the service for the gesture saying corporate bodies need to complement the government in providing interventions to society.
Sabo noted that Governor Inuwa Yahaya built the school in response to the yearning of the people of the community who lacked public learning facilities in the past.
The SUBEB official added that 60 per cent of children in the school were admitted from the Kumbiya-Kumbiya community and 40 per cent were from other areas.
He uncovered plans by the government to minimise the number of pupils and students in schools across the state to 40 per class for better management and effective teaching and learning.
