Gimba Suleiman Hassan Poetry competition

Gimba Suleiman Hassan Esq, the curator of the Yobe Peace and Arts Festival has announced a poetry prize in his name.

The Prize which will be a way of celbrating his birthday was announced on 10th December and will remain open until the end of the year.

It has a cash prize of fifty thousand Naira and will be announced on 10th January, 2023 on his birthday.

Information and guidelines for winning the prize comprises of:

1. The Prize is open to poets living in Nigeria from age 25 downwards.

2. Only poets who have not yet had a full-length poetry book published at the time of submission are eligible.

3. Only poems written in English would be accepted.

4. Submission is open from 10th December, and ends on 31st December 2022.

6. A person can submit only one entry.

7. A participant is allowed to choose from any topic or theme of interest.

7. The poem may have been previously published or won previous awards.
8. All entries should be submitted via email to poetry.prize@gimba.com.ng
9. The organisers reserve the right to not award the judge’s if, in the judge’s opinion, such an action is justified. 
The organisers also reserve the right to split the Prize if they decide that more than one poet is worthy of winning it.

10. The judges’ decision is final and they will not enter into any correspondence with participants regarding their decisions.

Rules:

11.  Poems must be the original work of the entrant.

12. Each poem must have a title or a numbersingle-spacedould be single-spaced.

14. There is no stipulation regarding font type and size.

15. Poems must be emailed in a SINGLE Word document attachment (not a PDF) – with an index cover page that contains the entrants’ name, nationality, country of birth, full address including country of permanent residence, personal email address, phone number and verifiable means of identification.

Any applicants who submit a PDF will be discounted from the Prize.

16. The submission document must be name of the poet, not the name of the prize.

17. The entire submission must be in black ink, with no colours.

18. Individual poems received as separate file attachments and poems sent within the body of an email will be automatically rejected with no notification to the poet.

19. All shortlisted and wallowers agree to allowing their poems to be published on gimba.com.ng
Rules: Winner Only

20. The winner must be available via email to reply promptly to correspondence. The winner will be required to provide a biography and photograph.

21. It will be helpful if the winner has or creates a social media presence but this is in no way a condition of winning the prize.

22. The copyright of the winner’s poems remains with the winning poet.
