Ulcer, the demon I’ve been living with, for almost 20 years, by Aisha M Auyo
Ulcer mimics angina, pancreatitis
From Stomach ache digestive problems, chest pain, acidity and back pain, you can name them.
You can’t eat much, lest you vomit
You can’t take much time without eating, lest you vomit gas and blood
what an irony
You can’t eat or drink too hot
You can’t eat or drink too cold
What an irony
You can’t eat or drink peppers
you can’t eat or drink sour
You can’t eat or drink spicy stuff
You can’t eat or drink Gassy stuff
You can’t eat or drink citrus stuff
You can’t eat or drink oily fries
You can’t take ibuprofen when you are sick lest it triggers your ulcer
What will you eat or drink then?

Mild and moderation are key
Eat half a plate and after a few hours, eat another half
Eat or drink mild temperature, neither hot nor cold
Avoid exotic drinks, settle for the smoothies
You can only use specific painkillers that may not trigger it
Milk, bananas and anti-acids become your besties
You’ll have to always be with food
Your well-being depends on that
You’ll have to drink a lot of water, for hydration, and to neutralise acidity
Dedicated to all those suffering from ulcers.
