Yobe varsity to introduce nursing programme, other specialised courses

The Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University Damaturu, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura, has disclosed that the University has reached an advanced stage in the introduction of the B.Sc Nursing Programme in the College of Medical Sciences of the institution.

Prof. Mala disclosed this during the 14th Matriculation Ceremony of the University held in Damaturu on Wednesday.

He hinted that the University is considering the introduction of other academic programmes in the College of Medical Sciences such as Dentistry, Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography.

He revealed that the university so far has a College of Medical Science, five faculties, 31 academic departments running 48 academic programmes, 3 schools and 6 specialised centres.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the newly established Faculty of Agriculture with four academic departments is now matriculating her first set of 149 students.

He said the university is growing fast both in terms of academic programmes and student enrollment, stressing that the total student population stood at 11,022 and was made up of 2,740 new and 8, 282 returning undergraduate students.

Prof. Daura further revealed that the matriculating students for the 2022/2023 academic session were drawn from candidates who applied for admission through the UTME/DE modes during the 2021 and 2022 JAMB admission exercises.

He charged the newly matriculated students of the institution to always remember the oath they signed in their conduct within and outside the University.

The Vice-Chancellor also advised the students to shun all vices and face their studies, participate in extracurricular activities as well as be good ambassadors of the institution.

Prof. Daura then appealed to the parents to appreciate the efforts of the Yobe State Government and the federal government in providing the needed infrastructure for teaching and learning.
