Alleged $1.3m Fraud: Court adjourns A.A Zaura’s trial to 30th May

A Federal High Court presided over by Justice Mohammad Nasir Yunusa has adjourned the trial of Kano businessman Abdulkarim Abdulsalam Zaura, who is facing an alleged fraud charge of US$1.3 million.

The trial will now commence on the 30th of May and 1st of June 2023 after hearing all pending applications.

During the court session on Tuesday, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Sadik Hussaini, requested an adjournment to enable him to produce his witness at the next hearing date.

In response, Counsel to the Defendant, Ishaka M. Dikko (SAN), informed the court that he had filed a motion on notice dated 17th April 2023 seeking to stay the proceeding pending the hearing and determination of an appeal at the Supreme Court.

The learned Silk also stated his readiness to move the application.

However, Barrister Hussaini, while acknowledging that he had been served with the application, requested an adjournment to enable him to respond to the motion, arguing that it was not ripe for hearing since he had only just received it that day.

“We are not ready for this Motion today, we prayed the Court to give another date for the hearing of this application” and the Court subsequently obliged.
