Anambra Govt launches probe into controversial UTME result of Mmesoma Ejikeme

The Anambra State government has initiated an investigation into the controversy surrounding the highest scorer in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Mmesoma Ejikeme.

Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, made this announcement in a statement released in Awka on Monday.

According to the commissioner, a panel of inquiry has been established to collaborate with security agencies in probing the allegations of result falsification leveled against Mmesoma Ejikeme, who was previously celebrated on social media as having achieved the highest score.

The commissioner expressed her dismay at the controversy surrounding the girl’s actual result, particularly considering the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in reforming the education sector in Anambra.

Mmesoma Ejikeme, a student at Anglican Girls Secondary School Uruagu in Nnewi, had initially gained recognition for purportedly attaining a remarkable score of 362 in the 2023 UTME.

However, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) subsequently declared this result as fraudulent, asserting that Miss Ejikeme had inflated her actual score from 249 to 362.

Meanwhile, the state government has applauded Nkechinyere Umeh, who was declared by JAMB as the highest scorer nationwide, achieving an impressive cumulative mark of 360 in the 2023 UTME.
