Yobe State finalises security measures ahead of school reopening

Yobe State Government has announced comprehensive security plans for the full reopening of all schools previously closed due to security threats, with particular emphasis on fortifying boarding facilities.

The decision follows a high-level security and education stakeholders’ meeting presided over by the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, who represented Governor Mai Mala Buni.

The forum brought together security chiefs, traditional rulers, education commissioners, school principals, and local government representatives to design a coordinated safety strategy.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor emphasised the government’s commitment to restoring and maintaining a stable academic calendar.

He called for strengthened collaboration between school administrators and security agencies to develop and enforce effective security protocols across all educational institutions.

“The government is determined to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We must work together to create a secure environment for learning,” stated Alhaji Gubana.

After detailed deliberations, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Associate Professor Abba Adam Idris, confirmed that all schools will reopen under enhanced security arrangements.

“These measures were jointly designed with input from security experts, school management, parents, and community leaders,” said the Basic Education Commissioner.

Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters, assured that thorough risk assessments have been conducted.

“Students can return to school with confidence. While operational security details will remain confidential, robust measures are in place to ensure their safety,” he said.

The meeting included key figures such as the Emir of Fika, commissioners for higher and basic education, leadership from SUBEB and ALGON, and principals of prominent federal and state schools.

This move marks a critical step by the Yobe State Government to resume educational activities while actively addressing the security challenges affecting schools in the region.
