JAMB Result Falsification: Mmesoma begs for leniency in apology letter
Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma, the 19-year-old student from Anambra State, has written a letter to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), seeking leniency for manipulating her 2023 Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
Mmesoma presented her letter of apology before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on alleged Manipulation of Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) results in Abuja on Wednesday.
Recall that Mmesoma had falsely claimed to have scored 362, whereas her actual score was 249 in the 2023 UTME JAMB portal.
Mmesoma admitted that what she did was wrong and expressed deep remorse. She titled her letter of apology, “Letter of Profound Apology.”
She stated, “I humbly seek your forgiveness for the mistake I made. I sincerely acknowledge that I obtained the JAMB result from another portal, and in the course of this, I criticized JAMB, for which I deeply apologize.”

Mmesoma explained that her actions were driven by ignorance and that she had never engaged in falsification or any misdemeanors before. She expressed her regret for bringing public institutions to ridicule and assured the committee that she had genuinely repented.
She pledged to accept the recommendation of the ad-hoc committee and rectify her mistake, committing to becoming a better person.
In her words, “I ask you to temper justice with mercy.”
Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, confirmed that Mmesoma had manipulated her result with the help of the examination centre where she wrote the exam. He further stated that the centre had been banned for aiding and abetting fraud.
He disclosed that eight centres in Anambra State were currently under investigation due to Mmesoma’s case and emphasized that there were no loopholes in JAMB’s procedures.
Prof Oloyede called on the public to refrain from making unfounded statements and to have confidence in public institutions. He commended JAMB for introducing innovations to reduce human interference in its operational processes, thereby building trust with the public.
He said, “Mmesoma’s case was an amateur one. There was another falsification by a candidate that almost drove me mad.”
Rep. Sanda Soli, the Chairman of the Committee, advised Mmesoma to mend her ways and never resort to such misconduct again.
“You were one of the high scorers; don’t ever think of resorting to deceitful means to achieve anything in the future,” he said.
