President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Is-haq Oloyede, whose second tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
Aina’s appointment has attracted national attention, not only because he is set to become JAMB’s youngest registrar, but also because of his rapid rise through academia, technology, and public service.
Here are key things to know about him:
Trained Entirely In The United Kingdom
Aina studied at two universities in the United Kingdom.
He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent in 2008 before proceeding to Loughborough University, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security in 2009.
He later completed a PhD in Digital Signal Processing at the same institution.
Back in Nigeria, he also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Started At JAMB As A Corps Member
Before becoming registrar, Aina had already worked within JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting.
According to the State House, the experience gave him early exposure to Nigeria’s admission and examination systems, shaping his later contributions to examination reforms and institutional management.
Became A Professor At 39
Aina was appointed Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University at the age of 39, making him one of the youngest professors in the field in Nigeria.
His promotion was credited to his research output, leadership experience, and efforts to bridge academic theory with practical solutions.
Experience In Government Advisory Roles
Beyond academia, Aina has advised several public institutions.
His consultancy work includes assignments for the Job Creation Unit in the Office of the Vice President and various state governments, focusing on digital transformation, operational reform, and system design.
Worked With Major Examination Bodies
Aina has also consulted for the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital optimisation.
Co-Founded A Technology Company
In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, an IT services and engineering project management company with interests in education technology, agriculture, hospitality, vocational training, and capacity building.
Member Of Several Engineering Bodies
Aina belongs to several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
He has also authored about 30 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers.
