NAF Airstrikes Hit Hard: Oil thieves, terrorists, IPOB camp targeted

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced successful airstrikes conducted against various criminal elements over the past few days in different operational areas,” said the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet.

He released a statement in Abuja on Sunday detailing these operations.

“In the Niger Delta Region, Gabkwet revealed that the airstrikes were targeted at curbing the illicit activities of oil thieves, which have been negatively impacting both the region’s environment and the nation’s oil output.

“On August 11, as part of Operation Delta Safe, NAF aircraft conducted air interdiction missions at an illegal refining site southwest of Bille, a coastal town in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers.

“Furthermore, similar airstrikes were carried out on the same day against a well-known IPOB Camp located in Orsumoghu, within the Ihiala local government area of Anambra State.

“Intelligence reports had indicated the presence of proscribed IPOB elements at makeshift camps, suggesting an impending attack on innocent citizens. The airstrikes were deemed successful, effectively engaging these elements.

“In a separate operation, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted airstrikes at a location about 1.5km East of Arra, a previously deserted terrorists’ hideout near Sambisa Forest.

“Previous reconnaissance had indicated a gathering of terrorists at this location, which had been cleared of their activities approximately six months prior due to intensive bombardment by NAF aircraft.

“The decision to attack the location east of Arra aimed to disrupt the terrorists’ ability to settle and use it as a staging point. The aftermath of the strike displayed success, with numerous terrorists neutralized and structures destroyed. Surviving terrorists were observed fleeing the area in disarray, ultimately degrading their capability to target friendly forces and civilians.

“These recent airstrikes reflect NAF’s commitment to combating criminal elements and securing various regions across the nation.”
