Iran warns US, Israel as army chief vows strong response to threats

Iran’s army chief, Major General Amir Hatami, has warned that Tehran will not remain passive in the face of what he described as threats and hostile rhetoric from former United States President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Speaking on Wednesday, Hatami said Iran considers the recent statements by Washington and Tel Aviv as a direct threat to its sovereignty and security, stressing that any mistake by its adversaries would be met with a decisive and stronger response than in previous confrontations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not tolerate the continuation of threats against the Iranian nation without responding,” Hatami was quoted as saying by Iranian state-affiliated media.

His comments come amid heightened tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel, following public remarks by Trump and Netanyahu backing anti-government protests in Iran and warning Tehran over its internal crackdown and regional activities.

Hatami warned that Iran’s armed forces are on high alert and fully prepared to defend the country, adding that any form of foreign interference would have serious consequences. He noted that Iran’s response to aggression would be more robust than during its 12-day conflict with Israel in June 2025.

The warning also comes against the backdrop of widespread protests across Iran, triggered by economic hardship, inflation and subsidy cuts, which authorities have described as being fueled by foreign powers.
