Suspected ESN/IPOB gunmen in Imo fatally shoot retired police officer, wife
In a tragic incident that unfolded in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sampson Owobo, and his wife lost their lives at the hands of three ruthless gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)/the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The heart-wrenching event occurred on a Sunday night when the suspected ESN/IPOB gunmen attempted to rob the couple of a bag containing the earnings from their Point Of Sale (POS) business. This bag held the day’s hard-earned money.

Shockingly, this incident transpired around 8 pm, in close proximity to the office of the Owerri Area Police Command, sending waves of panic through the residents who were desperately seeking safety.
According to an eyewitness, the assailants showed no mercy, firing at the couple from point-blank range. The retired police officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while his wife was struck in the chest.
“The assailants, numbering three, were in the midst of a robbery attempt,” the source reported.
Tragically, the husband lost his life on the spot, while the wife was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri.
Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the state police command, expressed strong condemnation for these senseless killings.
He also revealed that the commissioner had issued orders for a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with the goal of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
