YOSEMA engages stakeholders in Potiskum, prepares for distribution of palliatives

Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has held a stakeholders engagement meeting in Potiskum on Friday regarding the forthcoming distribution of palliatives in the state.
The meeting was led by the Local Government Area Chairman, Honourable Salisu Muktari Bello, and attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from the government, community leaders, religious leaders, and members of the affected population.
The primary focus of the meeting was to ensure Accountability to the Affected Population (AAP) by discussing the strategies in place to support vulnerable communities, in preparation for the forthcoming distribution of palliatives.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje, provided a comprehensive overview of the agency’s operational framework, disaster response protocols, and the approach to aiding communities battling with the aftermath of disasters.
He also highlighted the agency’s limitations and stressed recent innovations, all in alignment with Governor Buni’s Emergency Response Plan.
Neptune Prime gathered that the meeting identified 6800 vulnerable persons from over 60 communities spanning 10 wards as beneficiaries of the palliatives.
It was also reported the inclusive list encompassed teachers from both primary and secondary schools, People Living with Disabilities (PLWD), LGA staff, members of Market Unions, GSM vendors and repairers, NURTW representatives, orphanages, and widows.
While the beneficiaries were also selected by an independent team, with assistance from District Heads, Village Leaders, religious figures, and respected elders within the communities.
Prominent figures including the chairpersons of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with representatives from Islamic scholars and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), provided insightful remarks and contributed to the discourse surrounding the distribution process.
On his part, the Potiskum LGA Chairman pledged commitment to advocating for additional resources and support for Potiskum, while emphasizing the importance of such aid, especially considering the population density of Potiskum compared to other LGAs.
He, however, noted that to guarantee transparency, the list of beneficiaries will be shared with their respective community leaders for verification.
Neptune Prime reported that each of the 6800 beneficiaries would receive a 20kg food basket.
