Kano Gov’t distributes palliatives to 5,000 households

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially launched a distribution campaign aimed at providing palliatives to 5,000 households within the state.
This initiative is part of a 5 billion naira intervention granted by the federal government to alleviate the economic difficulties resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.
The governor emphasized that the programme will benefit both rural and urban communities across the state’s 44 local government areas. It is estimated that 297,000 people will receive 10kg of rice and 160,000 will receive 10kg of maize. Distribution will take place in 484 wards across the state, with each ward receiving 565 bags of rice and 330 bags of maize.
In addition to the food distribution, 2,357 women have been empowered through the provision of sheep, goats, and rams. This empowerment is intended to alleviate poverty and support women in lower and middle-class communities.

Furthermore, 6,000 smallholder farmers have received support in the form of agricultural inputs and technologies, such as climate-smart pumping machines, power tillers, hammer mills, rice mills, rice hullers, rice threshers, and maize threshers. These provisions aim to enhance agricultural productivity through the KSADP/SaSakawa Africa Association Crops Value Chain intervention.
Additionally, 1,200 groundnut farmers have been provided with “Aflasafe,” and 2,050 units of tradable water pumps have been distributed. The state government will also be supporting 300 farmers engaged in the production of rice, wheat, and tomatoes, with the goal of increasing agricultural productivity and creating job opportunities for the youth across the state.
The event was attended by notable individuals such as Dr. Farouk Kurawa (MD KNARDA), Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Gama (State Coordinator, KSADP), Nasiru Datti Kura (State Coordinator, N-CARE), and Abdulrashid Kofarmata, who represented the Director of SaSakawa.
