Rivers police arrest 6 persons for killing DPO, recover pistol, charms

In a recent development, the police have apprehended six suspects linked to the brutal murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East Council in Rivers State. The DPO lost his life on Friday when he was ambushed by members of the suspected Iceland cult group in Odumude Forest.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the arrests in a statement signed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command’s Spokesperson. According to the statement, the suspects were captured within the community and were found to be in possession of a locally crafted pistol and various charms.

Following this breakthrough, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka, together with his management team and tactical units, conducted a successful operation in Odumude Community, Ahaoda East LGA.

The primary objective of the operation was to recover the deceased DPO’s body and assess the community firsthand.

As a result of the operation, the six suspects, along with the confiscated items, are currently undergoing interrogation at the State CID, Port Harcourt. In light of these developments, the residents of the community have been evacuated for safety reasons.

In order to ensure the continued security of the area, SP Zuokumor Richard has been assigned as the new DPO of the division. Accompanied by a unit of men from Mopol 48, one-third unit from Mopol 19, 56, and tactical teams, the new DPO has been entrusted with the task of conducting a comprehensive search of the area. His mission includes apprehending the culprits responsible for the DPO’s demise, recovering the body, and locating any operational weapons used in the crime. This operation will continue alongside the ongoing investigation.

The Rivers State Police Command remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, and these recent developments signify a significant step forward in bringing justice to the murder of SP Bako Angbashim.
