Police arrest 22-year-old new car wash hire for vehicle theft

The Lagos Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended a 22-year-old car wash attendant named Issa Muhammed for allegedly stealing a customer’s vehicle.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the arrest in a statement released in Lagos on Tuesday.

Hundeyin explained that the suspect was apprehended after he absconded with a 2012 Toyota Camry, which had been entrusted to him for cleaning in the Isheri area of Lagos.

“The suspect was arrested on Sunday in the Agege area of Lagos State, where he had parked the car with the intention of meeting a potential buyer,” he stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect had vanished with the car just three days after being employed at the car wash.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle had been handed over to the suspect merely three hours before by the owner, who had plans for a family outing later in the afternoon,” Hundeyin added.

He further noted that Muhammed, during his escape, removed the car’s number plate and disposed of any items connecting the vehicle to its owner upon arriving in Agege.

The case is expected to be taken to court following a thorough investigation.
