Hamas to release civilian hostages in exchange for ceasefire

In a notable development, Hamas, the spokesperson for the terrorist organisation, has signaled its willingness to release all civilian hostages, provided that Israel agrees to a ceasefire and halts its retaliatory actions in Gaza.

This marks a significant change in the insurgents’ previous stance, amid escalating tensions between Israeli authorities and Hamas.

The conflict intensified after a recent attack by the terrorist group on a music festival in Israel, resulting in the abduction of approximately 200 festival-goers, including U.S. citizens.

In response, Israel launched airstrikes in Gaza, causing numerous casualties. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted at plans for a military invasion of Gaza.

However, MSNBC reports that Hamas, referring to the abducted civilians as “guests,” is now open to their release if the planned Gaza invasion is put on hold. MSNBC’s chief foreign correspondent, Richard Engel, shared, “If the bombing stops, he (a Hamas militant) said that all of the civilian hostages, Israeli and foreigners, could be released in one hour.”

Hamas cited the ongoing Israeli bombings as a hindrance to immediate release, explaining that “there is no safe place” due to the ongoing attacks.
