Eid-el-Kabir: Troops intensify security operations across North-East, warn of possible terror threats
The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured residents of adequate security ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, saying extensive measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property across the region.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the military disclosed that intelligence reports revealed possible attempts by remnants of Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters to exploit the festive period to launch attacks on civilian targets.
According to the statement, the planned attacks could involve suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), particularly in crowded public areas.
Despite the threats, the military assured residents that security agencies were fully prepared to prevent any breach during the celebrations.
“The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI extends warm felicitations to all Muslim faithful ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir 1447AH celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026, and wishes all residents of the North-East a peaceful and joyful festivity,” the statement read.

It added that troops had already been deployed to vulnerable locations across the theatre of operations, while surveillance and intelligence assets had been activated to monitor potential threats.
The command further disclosed that patrols had been intensified and security agencies were working closely with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and community vigilante groups to ensure public safety throughout the celebration period.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary exposure to security risks during the festivities.
The military urged worshippers to observe Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes and familiar environments while avoiding large gatherings where possible.
It also advised members of the public to be alert in crowded locations such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds, and to promptly report suspicious persons, unattended items, or unusual movements to security agencies.

Citizens were equally encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during stop-and-search operations and avoid unnecessary movement at night or in areas with limited security presence.
The command warned against spreading rumours or unverified information capable of causing panic, urging residents to rely only on official government and security channels for updates.
Lt. Col. Sani also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to support security efforts by encouraging residents to provide credible intelligence to security agencies.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to maintaining peace and denying terrorists freedom of action during the Eid celebrations.
“The Command remains resolute in its determination to ensure that the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations proceed in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and dignity for all,” the statement added.
