29-year-old Graduate found dead in Canal after leaving home

A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, identified as Blessing Moshood, was allegedly murdered last Thursday night, with her body later discovered in a canal in Jikwoyi.

Speaking with Abuja Metro, Abigail Moshood, a sister to the deceased, said Blessing left their residence around 8pm after receiving a phone call from an unidentified person.

According to her, the deceased contacted the family about an hour later, informing them that she would briefly return home to pick up her phone charger, which she had forgotten.

Abigail said concerns grew after Blessing failed to return home and could not be reached the following day.

“We later heard residents discussing the discovery of a woman’s body inside a canal, and someone described the hairstyle she had on, which matched my sister’s,” she said.

“My mother immediately became distressed, and we later learnt that officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse to a mortuary in Mararaba. She was found half-naked, wearing only a top.”

Abigail added that she visited the police station, where officers showed her photographs of the victim, confirming it was indeed her sister.

A neighbour, Margaret, described the deceased as intelligent, articulate and friendly.

“I learnt she graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology, and she spoke very well,” she said.

“She related warmly with everyone in the neighbourhood and will be greatly missed, especially by the children who have been crying since they heard about her death.”

Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, urged security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling criminal activities around the Jikwoyi Medical Centre axis, particularly phone snatching and related crimes.

A police officer at the Jikwoyi Police Station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said investigations into the case were ongoing.

The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine, also confirmed the incident and stated that the matter remains under investigation.
