Fubara fortifies security, vows to shield supporters from arrest

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State convened a high-level security council meeting on Tuesday to address the escalating political tensions in the state.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, focused on recent disturbances at local government secretariats and the overall security situation in the state.

Following the meeting, Governor Fubara addressed the press, outlining the discussions held with the security chiefs. “It is crucial that we respect the rule of law and the democratic transitions that uphold our governance structures,” he emphasised.

He warned the immediate past council chairmen against attempting to unlawfully return to their previous positions.

The governor also expressed concerns about a plot by his political adversaries to target and arrest his supporters. “Anyone attempting to make such arrests will have to confront me directly,” he declared, vowing to personally ensure their safety.

The meeting aimed to devise effective strategies to prevent further invasions of local government offices and ensure the stability and continuity of governmental functions across the state.
