Police in Yobe identify criminal syndicate, arrest 40-year-old leader
The Yobe State Police Command has dismantled a criminal syndicate responsible for kidnappings and other criminal activities in Tarmuwa LGA and environs.
Police authorities disclosed that the syndicate headed by 40-year-old Muhammed Haruna, terrorised communities in Lantewa, Siminti, and neighbouring villages, using threats of violence and death to extort ransom money from local residents.
According to Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, the operation was initiated following a complaint from a resident of Siminti who reported receiving a threatening call demanding 3,000,000 or risk grieve harm coming to his family.
“On June 16, 2024, at approximately 2:15 PM, detectives from the State Intelligence Department conducted a coordinated operation in Nangillam Village, Tarmuwa LGA, leading to the arrest of Muhammed,” Abdulkarim explained.
“The suspect, originally from Lantewa village, confessed to his involvement in terrorising towns, villages, and neighbouring states. He also provided information implicating other syndicate members, who are now the focus of ongoing police efforts.”
This successful operation underscores the commitment of the police to combat organised crime and ensure the safety of Yobe State residents.
It serves as a warning to criminal elements that such activities will not be tolerated, reinforcing community security and restoring peace to affected areas.
The Police said they will continue to vigilantly pursue criminals and maintain proactive measures against criminal activities that threaten public safety and well-being.
