Tinubu’s ADC becomes monarch in Kwara, plans to appoint placeholder
Lt. Col. Nurudeen Yusuf, the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been officially installed as the new Elemona of Ilemona in Kwara State. The installation ceremony took place in secret on Saturday, with journalists barred from covering the event. Despite this, community members donned ceremonial Ankara uniforms and gathered at the government house premises.
Lt. Col. Yusuf, who has been instrumental in infrastructure development and securing jobs for natives in Ilemona, was chosen by the kingmakers to succeed his late father, Oba Yusuf Omokanye Oyekanmi. The Kwara State government ratified his selection following Oba Oyekanmi’s passing at the age of 95 in May.

Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Bata, the Kwara State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, confirmed Yusuf’s acceptance of the appointment. “Yes, it is true. He (Yusuf) will receive the staff of office any moment from now,” the commissioner said.
A former state House of Assembly member from Oyun, who preferred to remain anonymous, also verified the appointment. The former lawmaker mentioned that Yusuf, after his installation, plans to appoint a regent to manage the throne until his retirement from military service. “Being a security expert and well-educated, he is expected to use all available resources to advance the cause of his people,” he added.
The appointment of a placeholder is seen as a strategic move to benefit the community, allowing Lt. Col. Yusuf to continue his duties as the president’s ADC while also serving as the monarch until his retirement from the military. This dual role is expected to enhance the welfare and development of the Ilemona community.
