Technological advancements lead to plastic bottle constructions replacing traditional architecture

Change is the only constant thing in life. Humans are forced to change due to growth or adaptation. This is the same in the world of science and technology. Investigation and research have birthed numerous innovations. The story of Muhammed Adam Kayeri is an instance of technological evolution giving us an insight into what the future holds.
Mohammed Adam Kayeri is a young man from Yobe State who believes in doing things differently. His story is that of working unflaggingly to actualize his dreams. Muhammed is a go-getter who courageously explores the world of innovations. Taking architecture to another level, Muhammed uses plastic bottles for construction. Capturing our attention is his confidence and the uniqueness of his aspirations.
In this session, we will be enlightened on how Muhammed dared to do it differently. Overcoming challenges to take a bold step in to the future.
Neptune Prime: what is your name, state of origin and age?
My name is Mohammed Adam Kayeri (Commander) – Quality Assurance Assessor, an indigene of Yobe state, a native of Ngizim. I am 27 years old.
NP: please tell us briefly about your educational background.
I went to Njiwaji Pilot Primary School from primary 1 to primary 4, but finished in Yobe Children’s Academy Damaturu in the year 2002. I then proceeded to Malumfashi Unity School Katsina State where I started my studies from Jss1 to Jss2, then transferred to Leaders Private School from Jss2 to Ss2 and Graduated in Yobe Children’s Academy Damaturu in the year 2007
I earned a Diploma certificate from Federal Polytechnic Damaturu. After my Diploma, l went for a course in Major Academy Kaduna, Nigeria and became Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA). I attended a lot of innovational Seminars/workshops and programs both locally and internationally.
In all my quest for knowledge , I had always given it my best, and Alhamdulillah I always perform outstandingly amongst my peers.
NP: How did you come up with the idea of using plastics for construction?
Being an executive director of one local organization IPI ( Intellectual Potential Initiative), which encourages Talent & Innovations, I felt it was a must for me to come up with something new & beneficial to my community. So, I came up with building with Used Plastic Bottles as an alternative to traditional and modern blocks, in a way that can minimize waste and hence reduce ecological imbalance. This initiative will help my state and country in reducing the range of waste & poverty. This will also give opportunity to Youths to become landlords and also encourage healthy innovations.
Asides building with used plastic bottles, I also make interlocks with sachet water nylons hence encouraging recycling and wealth generation.
NP: When did you start your first project?
I started my first project on 15th February, 2024
NP: How strong is the building?
It is estimated that a plastic bottle takes approximately 300 years to decompose. When the bottles are filled with moist soil or other dark material. The building becomes bulletproof, fireproof, and can withstand earthquakes. They also maintain a comfortable temperature, produce zero carbon emissions, and are powered by solar and methane gas from recycled waste. NP: Is it weather friendly?
Yes very friendly to all weathers, because it becomes cold when it’s warm and it’s warm when it’s cold. The bottles are filled with sand, which functions as a great insulator. Especially in places with a warm climate, the bottle-houses do not need air conditioning. Another benefit of a plastic-bottle-house is that it is earthquake resistant, because it has flexibility.
NP: Buying or building a house is financially straneous due to current economic conditions, so we would like to know how affordable it is to build a house with plastics.
It is very affordable because it is 3 times cheaper to construct compared to the normal blocks construction
NP: How many of it have you built, and how long does it take you to build?
I have built one so far because this is my first attempt. The one I constructed took me 8 days to build.
NP: Do you actively take part in the construction process or you just oversee?
Yes, I actively take part in the construction.
NP: Since you started your project, have you solicited for financial support from the government?
No, I haven’t sought for financial support because, I want to have a module I could present. Because I believe I can only convince if I have a module for referential purposes.
NP: What are the challenges you have faced so far?
I faced lots of challenges firstly I had issues with my family and this was the most painful part for me, a lot of my friends did not believe in me and always discouraged me, Alhamdulillah for my resilience I made it this far.
Getting a site for work was quite challenging. I rented a place with the agreement to have the module set up there, but after the building started the owner came and stopped us because he only supports temporary constructions on his land, it became a hard time for us because we had spent lots of money but for peace to reign, we had to abandon the site
Another big blow was the very low turnout of volunteers, even though I had lots of volunteers on my team, but for this particular project I had less than 7 people out of about 50-60 volunteers which were mostly not consistent.
NP: Have you trained anyone to learn this type of construction?
Yes, I tried but not fully trained because it’s my first time too but I hav plans to improve my work and also treople willing to learn.
NP: what have you achieved so far?
My greatest achievement is making people believe in themselves, creating an impression of myself as a go getter defying all odds, and that is why people call me Kayeri #JustDoIt
NP: A word of advice for the youths.
You should believe in yourself, know that whatever you think is real and achievable JUST DO IT. Challenges will come but you are bigger than them and it is just a matter of time before you achieve your aims
