Police suspend ASPs, sack Inspector over extortion
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has taken action against three officers for misconduct.
This is contained in a statement issued by the spokesperson, Rivers Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko.
ASP Doubara Edonyabo and ASP Talent Mungo have been suspended for extortion, with their salaries also being stopped.
Inspector Michael Odey, on the other hand, has been dismissed from duty effective February 7, 2024, following thorough investigations and review by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16.
The statement noted that the two suspended officers will face the Force Disciplinary Committee, responsible for handling disciplinary matters involving senior officers.

Iringe-Koko emphasised that the decision to suspend and dismiss these officers highlights the police force’s zero-tolerance stance against misconduct and serves as a warning to others.
She also mentioned that the actions taken were in accordance with the ranks held by Edonyabo and Mungo, requiring approval from the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission.
The spokesperson praised the leadership of CP Olatunji Disu for maintaining discipline within the Rivers State Police Command and ensuring that the fundamental principles of credible policing are upheld.
The actions taken against the officers reflect the commitment of the police force to upholding integrity and accountability in their operations.
