Rivers Assembly threatens impeachment against Gov Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of dishonesty and threatening to reignite impeachment proceedings if he continues to flout the constitution.

During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Speaker Martin Amaewhule, accompanied by 26 Assembly members, emphasized their stance.

The lawmakers pointed fingers at the governor for failing to honor his commitment to the Presidential Peace Accord, which he voluntarily endorsed.

Despite withdrawing their impeachment notice earlier out of respect for President Tinubu, they now contemplate resuming the process due to ongoing constitutional violations by Governor Fubara.

In a detailed statement, the Assembly shed light on recent attempts to undermine their authority, including attacks on their premises and manipulation through various political channels.

They singled out the “Former Rivers State PDP Presidential Campaign Council” for criticism, highlighting their contradictory actions and attempts to influence public opinion against the Assembly.

Expressing unwavering dedication to their constituents and the rule of law, the Assembly assured the people of Rivers State of their commitment to upholding justice and accountability.

They called on President Tinubu to disregard external pressures and stand in support of their legislative independence.

Amidst escalating tensions, the Assembly remains vigilant in their pursuit of a peaceful and prosperous Rivers State, urging citizens to remain steadfast against any threats to democracy.
