Super Falcons triumph over South Africa in Olympic qualifiers
In an exciting display of skill and determination, the Super Falcons of Nigeria emerged victorious against South Africa with a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg of the final round of Olympic qualifiers.
Rasheedat Ajibade proved to be the hero for the Nigerian team as she confidently converted a 43rd-minute penalty to secure the crucial victory at the match held in Abuja on Friday.
From the onset, the Super Falcons showcased their prowess, putting pressure on the South African team at the MKO Abiola Stadium. Despite creating several opportunities, they initially struggled to find the back of the net.
The turning point came when South Africa’s Niko brought down Chinwendu Ihezuo in the penalty box, leading to the decisive spot-kick that Rasheedat expertly dispatched, giving Nigeria the lead.
