Malam Aminu Kano had just N3 at time of death 41 years ago – Sheikh Fagge
Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Umar Sani Fagge has shed light on the modest financial legacy left by the late political icon of Northern Nigeria, Malam Aminu Kano. According to Sheikh Fagge, who disclosed this during one of his preaching sessions in a viral video, Malam Aminu Kano passed away 41 years ago with only three Nigerian Naira in cash.
Despite his prominent role as a minister in the Gowon administration, Malam Aminu Kano’s financial situation at the time of his death was remarkably humble.
Sheikh Fagge shared an anecdote from one of the clerics who participated in the distribution of Malam Aminu’s assets, highlighting the surprising revelation of his meager financial holdings.
Malam Aminu Kano, a key figure in Nigeria’s pre-independence political landscape, played a pivotal role in the struggle for Nigeria’s political independence in 1960.
As a leader of the opposition in the first republic, he championed the cause of the Northern Elements Progressive Union, opposing the ruling Northern People’s Congress in the Northern region.

In the Second Republic, Malam Aminu Kano continued his political activism as the leader of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP). Despite facing challenges, his party secured significant victories in key states such as Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Jigawa during the 1979 general elections.
Malam Aminu Kano’s legacy of frugality and dedication to public service endures, transcending his humble financial circumstances. His commitment to social justice and grassroots empowerment continues to inspire generations, underscoring the enduring impact of his contributions to Nigerian politics and society.
He passed away on April 17th, 1983.
