Army rescues 386 from Sambisa forest after decade-long abduction
No fewer than 386 people, predominantly women and children, have been rescued by the Army from the Sambisa forest, ten years after their abduction.
This was announced by Brig. Gen. AGL Haruna, the acting GOC of the 7 Division, at the outskirts of Sambisa forest in Konduga LGA, following the conclusion of a 10-day military operation.
The operation, named “Operation Desert Sanity 111,” aimed to clear the forest of remaining terrorists and offer them a chance to surrender. Brig. Gen. Haruna noted that many terrorists were expected to surrender following the operation, and additional civilians were likely to be rescued.

Haruna commended the troops’ performance and professionalism, encouraging them to maintain their efforts. Some of the rescued individuals reported having been in captivity for a decade.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) confirmed that the operation involved troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, the 26 Task Force Brigade, and the 199 Special Forces.
